The GDS index is the world’s leading sustainability performance improvement and benchmarking assessment for destinations. The Index assesses the city’s sustainably performance over 75 criteria across – environmental, social, industry and destination management categories.

Belfast Sustainable Event Framework
To help you make your Belfast conference more sustainable, we have developed a comprehensive, simple to use template which you can edit and amend for your own event. It includes over 50 practical actions across all areas of event planning with helpful links, resources, guides, useful information and sources of inspiration. This template is designed for organisers who are at the early stages of their sustainability journey and it is in an easy to use and editable Excel format.

Green Tourism Partnership
In 2021 Visit Belfast and Belfast City Council launched a partnership with Green Tourism to position Belfast as a leader in sustainable tourism and support our partners to recover and grow post Covid. Now 2 years later, this partnership has resulted in a wide range of Green Tourism and Green Meetings accredited product in Belfast for you to choose from when hosting your event including venues, hotels, restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Our Sustainability Policy
As the city’s Destination Marketing Organisation (DMO), Visit Belfast recognises that it has an important role to play in supporting Belfast’s ambition. In partnership with Belfast City Council, we have committed to the development of a sustainable tourism plan as one of the resilience strategy transformational programmes. It is within this context that Visit Belfast is launching its first sustainability policy.
